Kenya Medical Project
Working across multiple clinics in the local town on Limuru has provided the community with more support since volunteers have been introduced here. This project is perfect if you’re looking to gain honest medical experience in Africa.
What will I be doing?
You will be working a busy week at multiple clinics in the town- depending on your experience and goals of the placement, you will be assigned to the clinic who would most benefit from your help.
You will be working alongside doctors and nurses in what are often, undersupplied clinics and understaffed. Your contribution as a volunteer makes a huge difference with spreading awareness and educating the locals about healthcare.
Home-based visits and community education are also an important part of this experience, as it allows you to see what it’s like to live the local culture. You will be giving advice, assistance, and a friendly face to those who need direction and support when it comes to healthcare.
You will be staying in the volunteer cottages in the Brackenhurst estate which is between the forests and tea fields of Kenya’s highlands. You will have access to running trails, a tennis, volleyball and basketball court to endure some personal downtime after a busy day, all inside the estate. There is a restaurant and café with a monthly farmers market and a lively atmosphere in the evenings. You will receive 3 meals a day on weekdays and self-cater on weekends with many options from cooking for yourself or visiting the restaurant.
The estate where the volunteers stay, is in Limuru which is a town about 35km northwest of Nairobi. It is well known for its local tea plantations which produces some of the world’s highest quality tea. If you want more, you will be able to venture out of town to find some of Kenya’s most well-known destinations such as the Maasai Mara, the Great Rift Valley and beaches which are voted Africa’s best.
